He has also been appointed UEFA International Diversity Ambassador and FIFPRO Players Global Diversity Ambassador.

Paul has been a long time supporter of Milestone and formally joined as member of Milestone’s Advisory Board as the Company’s CSR Ambassador in August 2012.

Paul’s role within Milestone is focused on introducing and promoting Milestone’s community and sports-based initiatives to key stakeholders in relevant marketplaces both nationally and internationally. Paul is also a Trustee for the Milestone Charitable Foundation, promoting their work in youth engagement.

Paul’s playing career started at Charlton Athletic, before planing for Celtic, Aston Villa, Chelsea and the Italian side, Pisa. Since retiring from the game, Paul has sat on numerous boards, primarily focusing on Diversity and Inclusion within the sport.

In 2003, Paul was awarded an MBE for his services to youth football and anti-racism initiatives and followed this up in 2012 with the awarding of a CBE for services to equality and diversity in football.

In July 2014, Paul was appointed as a member of the Football Association (“FA”) Inclusivity Advisory Board (“IAB”). The IAB brings together expertise from across football’s inclusion and anti-discrimination field to encourage greater involvement in the game from minority communities. This appointment sits alongside his role as UEFA International Diversity Ambassador and FIFPRO Players Global Diversity Ambassador.

On October 10th 2014, the FA announced that Paul had been appointed as a Council Board Member. In this role, Paul will lead and contribute in equality, diversity and inclusion issues as well as footballing matters. He is the first black ex-player in the FA’s 150-year history to be appointed to the FA Council Board.

Deborah White, CEO commented:

“We are delighted for Paul and are pleased to be working with him alongside these appointments. His work towards diversity and inclusion internationally complements his work on Milestone’s Passion Project. These appointments will allow Paul to extend the Passion Project’s message of engagement to an even greater network of key influencers in the international sporting arena."
